Brett Deubner, one of this generation’s most accomplished violists, has inspired worldwide critical acclaim for his powerful intensity and sumptuous tone. As an experienced soloist, chamber music collaborator and educator, Brett Deubner has made a lasting impression on musical life the world over.

Recent performances include the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra with Ann Manson, the Knoxville Symphony with Lucas Richman, the Filharmonic del Quito with Patricio Aizaga, the New Symphony of Sofia with Rossen Milanov and the National Chamber Orchestra of the Ukraine with Valery Matiukhin. In 2007 Mr. Deubner recorded the two concertos of Frank Lewin for Albany Records and he premiered and recorded the viola concerto of Trent Johnson in Kiev. Other solo engagements include performances with the North Shore Philharmonic, Bachanalia Chamber Orchestra, the Astoria Symphony, the Bucks County Symphony, the National Symphony Orchestra of Ecuador and Camerata Arkos.

During the 2008-2009 season Mr. Deubner premiered and recorded Andrew Rudin’s Viola Concerto concerto with Orchestra 2001 at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia. He also performed the world premiere of Amanda Harberg’s “Elegy” for solo viola and string orchestra with the Filharmonica del Quito and premiered “Tranfiguraciones” for solo viola, flute and orchestra with the Camerata Arkos.

During the 2009-2010 season, Brett Deubner performs with the Octava Chamber Orchestra in Seattle, the Desert Symphony in California, the String Orchestra of the Rockies in Montana, the North Shore Philharmonic in Massachusetts, the Central Jersey Philharmonic and Metropolitan Orchestra in New Jersey, the City of Buenos Aires Symphony Orchestra and the National Symphony of Ecuador. Brett Deubner has received 16 viola concertos written especially for him as well as numerous sonatas and works for chamber ensembles.

As an active chamber musician collaborator, Brett Deubner has appeared at the festivals of Caramoor, Heidelberg, Norfolk, Kent-Blossom, Sitka, Juneau Jazz and Classics, Cape May, East Coast Carolina, Bravo in Vail, and the Windham Festival. He has collaborated with pianist Joseph Kalichstein, Beth Levin, Anton Nell, Marcantonio Barone, violinists Tim Fain, Paul Rosenthal, Zvi Zeitlin, Nina Beilina, as well as the Colorado, Tokyo, Vermeer quartets and Claremont Trio. His many recordings include Viola Dreams (Eroica Classic 2006), Transfiguration, works for viola and guitar (Eroica 2006), English Viola Romance(2005), 2 Viola Concertos of Frank Lewin (Albany 2007) as well as commercial recordings with quartet and trios. In 2009 he recorded the viola concerto and sonata of Andrew Rudin as well as recorded the sonatas of Soviet-era composers of the mid 20th century.

Brett Deubner serves on the faculty of Temple University’s Boyer School of Music and Dance in Philadelphia and has been the Concert Artist in Viola at Kean University since 2004.
